Fundraising for the Northern
Illinois Chapter
American Association of Teachers of German
Our organization depends on membership fees and outside donations to support our projects. A donation allows for continued programing for students and teachers. Please consider donating to:
1. The Testing and Awards Fund. The National German Test is administered each year to more than 25,000 American students enrolled in second, third and fourth year German. Local AATG chapters use the results of these tests to honor and award the students who have received the highest scores. Our chapter has an annual Awards Ceremony for over 100 students and has been sending students to Germany for 50 years. In recent years, 1-4 students have participated in study trips to Germany and 2-6 students have traveled to the Concordia Language Villages for a 2 week immersion experience. Our ability to award such prizes is limited only by the generousity of our donors!
2. Immersion Weekend for Teachers of German. This annual workshop allows teachers to work on curriculum development and establish connections with other engaged teachers. Outside funding allows us to keep the registration fees manageable for teachers. Our goal is establish and maintain continued professional development opportunities for teachers and teachers-in-training.
3. AATG Endowed Scholarship Fund The national organization has established a scholarship fund that is used presently to support the Testing and Awards program. As the fund grows, the organization is able to offer additional summer exeriences in Germany to high school students. The endowment has grown to over $180,000 in seven years through the generosity of teachers, parents, students and organizations. Donations have ranged from $25-$5000. Earnings from this fund allowed three students to spend 4 weeks in Germany in the summer 2005 & 2006.
Please contact the chapter president, Sabine Woerner woerner@ameritech.net or John Paluch paluch@northwestern.edu if you are interested in learning more about the chapter's programing and use of donated funds.
